— LAVALE — Alexander Gowans Jr., 85, of LaVale, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014, at his home.

Born Sept. 28, 1928, in Lonaconing, he was the son of the late Alexander Gowans Sr., and Martha Anna (Ritchie) Gowans. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Marie Gowans and Bessie Love Tranum; and one brother, Harry Ritchie Gowans.

A United States Army Veteran of the Korean War, Alex retired from Allegany Ballistics Laboratory. He was Presbyterian by Faith and was a former member of the Lonaconing V.F.W.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Elizabeth Lee (Atkinson) Gowans; and his sons, Mark Alexander Gowans and wife, Kedra, Frostburg, and Todd William Gowans, Cumberland. He also leaves behind his grandchildren, Todd Gowans, Jr., and Ashley Gowans; and his great-grandchildren, Jene Krall and Greyson Gowans.

The family would like to thank Drs. Donaldson, Zamon and Nelson.

A private interment will be conducted at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.
