JACK E. NICHOLS [Ridgeley, W.Va.]

RIDGELEY, W.Va. — Jack Ellsworth Nichols, 88, of Ridgeley, W.Va., died Friday, March 15, 2013 at The Lions Center.

Born Oct. 23, 1924 in Attica, N.Y., he was the son of the late Orange “Bud” Nichols and Ida (Frounick) Snyder and step-son of the late William A. Snyder, Sr.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Jack E. Nichols, Jr.; a granddaughter, Kelly Nichols; and, a brother, William A. Snyder, Jr.

He was a World War II veteran, having served in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Nichols retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, where he was a tire builder and worked in quality control.

Mr. Nichols belonged to Calvary United Methodist Church; Davis Lodge 51, A.F. and A.M.; 32nd. Degree, Wheeling Scottish Rite Bodies; and the William E. Shuck Post 136, American Legion, Ridgeley.

Survivors include his wife, Irene Mae Nichols; his son, William R. Nichols, and wife Yvonne, Ridgeley; a sister, Thelma Rita Miller, LaVale; three  grandchildren, Chad Nichols, and wife Julie, Morgantown, W.Va., Scott Nichols, and wife Kris, Canonsburg, Pa., and Amy Roberts, and husband Jay, Lula, Ga.; ten great-grandchildren; a nephew, James Miller; and, a niece, Jane E. Karr.

Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Monday from 11 a.m. until 1  p.m.

The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. in the funeral home, with Pastor Benny Brakeall.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park, where military honors will be accorded by Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard. A memorial service will also be conducted at the gravesite by  officers and members of Davis Lodge 51, A.F. & A.M.
