THOMAS W. KEECH SR. [La Vale]

LAVALE — Thomas Woodrow Keech Sr., 93, of LaVale, passed away on Monday, March 18, 2013, at Golden Living Center.

Born Sept. 16, 1919, in Cumberland, Mr. Keech was the son of the late Thomas M. Keech and Mary (Brotemarkle) Keech.  He was also preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mildred (Price) Keech; two sons, Thomas W. Keech Jr. and Terrance D. Keech; and a grandson, Reginald G. Lennox Jr.

A graduate of Allegany High School, class of 1937, Tom was a United States Naval veteran of World War II having served on a mine sweeper in the Pacific Theatre, and retired in 1981 as an engineer for the B&O and CSX railroads.

Tom was co-owner and operator of Keech’s Corner Market in lower LaVale. He was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church and worked as a custodian for the church for a number of years. Tom was also a member of the Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion.

Tom is survived by his daughter, Bonnie L. Lennox and husband, Reg, Easton; and his son, Robert C. Keech and wife, Janice, LaVale. He also leaves behind his daughters-in-law, Carolyn B. Keech, Morgantown, W.Va. and Wei Chen, Gaithersburg; his sister, Evelyn M. Baker, Pittsburgh, Pa.; his grandchildren, Kim Femi and husband, Brian, David Keech and wife, Mary “Kass”, Ula Kay Keech, Randy Keech and wife, Ana Paula, Rebecca Twigg and husband, Bobby, and Andy Keech; as well as 15 great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, P.A., 404 Decatur St., Cumberland,  (www.AdamsFamilyFuneralHome.com) on Thursday, March 21, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the Cornerstone Baptist Church on Friday, March 22, 2013 at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Dave Hattenfield officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Interment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery at Rocky Gap.

Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons, David Keech, Randy Keech, Andy Keech, Bobby Twigg, Brian Femi; and great-grandsons, Tyler Cooper, and Cody Kight. Honorary pallbearers will be great-grandsons, Colten Keech, Landen Keech, and Evan Keech.
