VERONICA V. “RONNIE” HOOVER [Cumberland]

CUMBERLAND — Veronica V. “Ronnie” Hoover, 93, of Cumberland, now residing in Ridgeley, passed away on Monday, Nov. 25, 2013 at her home.

Born Jan. 10, 1920, in Cumberland, she was the daughter of the late George and Catherine (Detterman) Grabenstein. Besides her parent, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Calvin “Bill” Hoover; two brothers, Pete and Ray Grabenstein; four sisters, Almeda Milkowski, Viola Grabenstein, Maggie Wolford, and Hilda Rose; and two sons-in-law, Richard E. Grabenstein and Malcolm M. Garletts.

Ronnie was a homemaker. She was member of Our Lady of the Mountains Parish, Saint Mary’s Catholic Church, and a volunteer on the gift cart at Sacred Heart Hospital where she accumulated 7,000 hours of volunteer time. She was also a member of Henry Hart Post 1411 VFW Auxiliary, and an active member of the Cumberland Senior Center.

She is survived by two daughters, Georgine A. Garletts, Ridgeley, and Gary Stump, Short Gap, W.Va., and Janet A. Haislip and husband Mike, Cumberland; a son, Joseph R. Hoover and wife Jenny, Short Gap; one sister, Sr. M. Georgine Grabenstein, OSU, Louisville, Ky.; six grandchildren, John Pate, Cheri Pate, Bill Grabenstein and wife Wendy, Theresa Pownall and husband Joe, Michael “Mikey” Haislip and Tanya, and Tiffany Kerns and husband Mark; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Bill Grabenstein, Lawrence Wolford, Matthew Bollman Jr, Avery Peirce, and Mikey Haislip.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave. (www.scarpellifh.com) on Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2013 from 4 to 7 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church on Wednesday, Nov. 27, 2013, at 10 a.m.

Interment will be in Saint Mary’s Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Potomac Valley Hospital Home Hospice Care Unit, 100 Pin Oak Lane, Keyser, W.Va. 26726.
