— OAKLAND — H. Ray Decker, 87, of Oakland, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013, at Goodwill Mennonite Home, Grantsville.

Born Nov. 4, 1926, in Monroe, Iowa, he was the son of the late Orie Edward and Lottie Ellen (Hawkins) Decker. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Marino.

Mr. Decker retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 27 years as a letter carrier, had been employed as a surveyor with the Virginia Department of Highways and R.J. Radcliff and was a U.S. Navy Aviation Radioman 3rd Class during World War II. He was very mechanical, loved wood working, and was avid in prison ministry and a Cub Scout leader. Mr. Decker a member, avid church attendant and deacon at the Manassas Assembly of God. After moving to Oakland, he became a member of Crellin Assembly of God and was also affiliated with Loch Lynn Church of God.

A loving and devoted husband and father, Ray is survived by his wife, Lila (Marshall) Decker, whom he married on July 18, 1948, in Manassas, Va.; two sons, Lloyd Allen Decker and wife, Sharon G., Oakland, Bruce Lee Decker and wife, Linda L., Nokesville, Va.; one daughter, Donna Lorraine Martin and husband, Rodney A., Linden, Va.; one sister, Betty Hadsall, Roswell, N.M.; seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 1100 Memorial Drive, Oakland, on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Services will then follow at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Ivan Ackerman and the Rev. A. Ray Beahm officiating. Interment will be in the White Church Cemetery, Oakland.  Military graveside rites will be accorded by area veteran’s service organizations.
