DOROTHY “DOT” RADCLIFFE [La Vale]

LAVALE — Dorothy “Dot” (Dicks) Radcliffe, 87, died on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center.

Born in Cumberland on October 24, 1926 she was the daughter of the late Harry B. and Daisy M. Dicks.

A graduate of Allegany High School, Dot married Joseph Franklin Radcliffe on Jan. 1, 1952. Her husband recently passed away on Feb. 5, 2014.  Their loving marriage lasted for over 62 years.

Dot was a talented individual who operated a popular Christmas shop in LaVale during the 1970s and 80s. An excellent organ/piano player, seamstress and decorator, Dot made a multitude of beautiful items for her Christmas Corner shop as well as for her home in LaVale.

Along with her husband, Dot was a member of the Notables Organ Club, Maryland Mountain Doll Club and School House Quilters.  She joined her husband in membership in the LaVale Lions Club and participated in various worthy endeavors sponsored by that long-standing club. She was a member of the LaVale United Methodist Church.  Dot and Joe enjoyed 16 years of wintering in North Fort Myers, Fla. She maintained a multitude of friendships in the LaVale area and will be greatly missed.

Dot is survived by son, Robert Radcliffe and wife, Janice, Grantsville; daughter, Carolyn Bellevance and husband, Paul, Montrose, Colo.; brother, Charles F. Dicks, LaVale; granddaughter, Shannon Cummings and husband, Dustin, Frostburg; and great-grandson Grayson Cummings.

Family and friends will be received at Hafer Funeral Service, P.A., 1302 National Highway, LaVale, on Friday, March 21, 2014 from 6 to 9 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Bernadette Ross officitating and the Rev. Wade Clark assisting.

Interment will follow at Hillcrest Burial Park.

Serving as pallbearers will be Dustin Cummings, Mat Layton, Todd Logsdon, Rodger Dicks, Greg Dicks and Paul Bellevance.  Honorary pallbearers will be Dean and Mark Armstrong.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations to Dot’s memory be made to the LaVale Lions Club or the LaVale United Methodist Church.
