JOHN R. “RANDY” PIPER [Spring Gap]

SPRING GAP — John Randolph “Randy” Piper, 73, of Spring Gap passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at the Cabell-Huntington Memorial Hospital in Huntington, W.Va.

Born in Spring Gap on June 25, 1940, he was the son of the late John and Marietta V. “Tean” (Wilson) Piper. Besides to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Piper.

Randy was a mechanic and an employee of the A&P Coffee Company. He was a 1958 graduate of Fort Hill High School. He was an active member of the Mount Tabor United Methodist Church, where he participated in many church activities.

Randy is survived by his wife of 55 years, Esther (Lewis) Piper; a daughter, Brenda Cannamela and husband, Tony, Odenton; two sons, David R. Piper, Ellicott City, and Darrell R. Piper, Glen Burnie; two sisters, Barbara Piper Giles, Ocean City and Lois Piper-Gray, Colonial Beach, Va.; and two brothers, Jack W. Piper, Morristown, Tenn., and Kenneth R. Piper, Lampassas, Texas. Randy is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Avenue (www.scarpellifh.com) on Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

A funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Sunday at 2 p.m. with Pastor Charles Riggleman officiating.

Interment will take place in Mt. Tabor Cemetery. Military honors will be accorded by Fort Cumberland Post 13 American Legion Honor Guard.

Pallbearers will be Kenny Piper, Barney Piper, Leland Ritchie, Jeff Davis, Mike Carpenter and Delmis Shaw.  Honorary pallbearer will be Ronnie Crabtree, his cousin and best friend.

In lieu of flowers those wishing to honor Randy’s memory may do so by making contributions to the Mount Tabor United Methodist Church.
