— CUMBERLAND — Esther M. Mellinger, 91, of Cumberland, went to be with the Lord on Sept. 13, 2013, with her loving daughter and family at her side.

Born Dec. 5, 1921, to the late Gertrude and Issac Johnson of Locust Grove, she was one of eight children.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Henry A. Mellinger; one brother, Tommy Johnson; and four sisters, Alberta Smith, Edna Boyer, Erma Martin and Anna McConnell. She is survived by one sister, Wanda Robinette, and one brother, Bobby Johnson.

Esther is survived by her one and only child, a daughter, LaDonna M. Deffinbaugh, of Cumberland. She also has four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Esther was a dedicated laundry worker and was employed by Crystal Laundry for 10 years and then Union Laundry for 22 years. Both businesses operated in the greater Cumberland area in the mid to later 1900s. She was an avid bingo player and enjoyed bowling for various local leagues.

Esther will be sadly missed by all that knew and loved her.

At Esther’s request, and as a gift, she donated her body to the Maryland Anatomy Board for future generation health advancement research.

The family extends special thanks to the Allegany‚ÄąCounty Hospice Unit and to the Lions Club for all their dedicated time and all needed medical necessities at this special time.
