CUMBERLAND — James Edwin “Jim” Lewis, 73, of Lake Mary, Fla., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at Central Florida Regional Hospital in Sanford, Fla.
Born Nov. 18, 1939 in Cumberland, he was the son of the late Edwin and Gretchen Lewis.
He grew up helping the family with their grocery store business known in the area as Lewis’ Market and graduated from Fort Hill High School in 1958. After graduating in 1958, he attended the University of Maryland and then Strayer College, where he received his Associates Degree in Accounting.
Jim made a career working for the American Automobile Association (AAA) in the Washington D.C. area before relocating, with the company, to Lake Mary, where he retired as the Director of Budgets and Taxes in 1997 with more than 30 years of service to the Association.
Jim is survived by his son, James Christopher Lewis, daughter-in-law Kate Lewis, grandchildren, Kara and Grayson Lewis all of Burke, Va.; step-children, Jean Cottrill and Tom Shope of Florida; and first wife, Martha Havron of Star Tannery, Va.
Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A. (www.scarpellifh.com) 108 Virginia Ave, Cumberland, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2013 at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Harold R. McClay Jr. officiating.
Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park.
