HARRY G. SHUPE JR. [Alpharetta, Ga.]

ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Harry Glenn Shupe Jr., of Alpharetta, formerly of Frostburg, passed away at his home in Alpharetta on Aug. 27, 2013 at the age of 84.  

He is survived by his son, Alexander Glenn Shupe.

He was a graduate of Beall High School where he played on the football team. Thereafter, he graduated from Dickinson College, Carlisle, Pa., and received his law degree from the University of Maryland. He joined the U.S. Army first as a member of the military police and later as counsel in the Judge Advocate General’s Corp at Fort Meade. After his military service, Harry served in the U.S. Dept. of Justice in Washington, D.C. and later at the Federal Trade Commission in Washington and New Orleans.

Harry was married to Melody Bliss Shupe of Troupsburg, N.Y., who passed away in 2002. They were active members of the Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church in Alpharetta.

Reared on Frost Avenue in Frostburg, Harry was the son of Harry Shupe Sr. and May Hill Shupe and the brother of Daniel and John Shupe as well as the close cousin of Emily and Dorothy Hill who were raised by his parents. He is also survived by three nieces and nephews, children of his older brother, Dan.

Harry retired first to Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and later to Alpharetta. He was an avid golfer and was appreciated for his flair for the narrative.

Friends and relatives will be received on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sowers Funeral Home, 60 West Main St., Frostburg, with the Rev. Richard Schoenly officiating.  

Interment will follow at the Frostburg Memorial Park.
