— CUMBERLAND — Lawrence Edward Stephens, 93, of Cumberland, passed away Monday, Sept. 2, 2013, at his home.

Born June 19, 1920, in Pittsburgh, Mr. Stephens was the son of the late Lawrence Joseph Stephens and Helen (McCoby) Stephens.  He was also preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Stephens and was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

A United States Army veteran during World War II, Mr. Stephens retired from the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 307. He was a member of the Henry Hart Post 1411 V.F.W.; the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 2; the 506 Paratroop Infantry and a life member of the 101st Airborne Association. He was also a member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Mr. Stephens is survived by his nephew, Harry Widdows and wife Patricia, of Fayetteville, N.C.; his niece, Jane White and husband Ralph, of Titusville, Fla.; as well as numerous great-nephews.

A Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated in Our Lady of the Mountains Parish SS. Peter and Paul Shrine, on Friday, Sept. 5, 2013, at 10 a.m.

Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
