FORT ASHBY, W.Va. — Earl William Wendell, 86, of Fort Ashby, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013 at his home.
Born March 15, 1926 in Laurium, Mich., he was the son of the late Jacob and Hilma (Rutila) Wendell.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Aron Earl Wendell; a step-son, Paul Edward Wise; three brothers, Russell Wendell, Raymond Wendell, and Les Wendell; and one sister, Evelyn Nazelrod.
He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Mr. Wendell retired with 25 years of service at Champion Spark Plug Company, where he had been a supervisor.
He belonged to Fort Ashby Post 6667, V.F.W., where he had been the Quartermaster; Aerie 2883, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Cresaptown; American Legion 267, Clawson, Mich.; and Lodge 1371, Loyal Order of Moose, Romney, W.Va.
He is survived by his wife, Cora Frances (Steward) Wendell; one brother, Gordon Wendell, California; one sister, Lenore Calvert, California; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, Inc., Route 28, Fort Ashby, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Norman Landis, officiating.
Interment will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery, where military honors will be accorded.
