RITA L. LIEBIG [Keyser, W.Va.]

KEYSER, W.Va. — Rita L. Liebig, 61, of Keyser, W.Va., died Friday, Nov. 13, 2013 at her residence.

Born on May 1, 1952 at Petersburg, W.Va., she was a daughter of Dora Lee (Cosner) Hawk of Scherr, W.Va., and the late Jess Willard Hawk. She also was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Craig Hawk; and her mother-in-law, E. Jane Liebig.

Mrs. Liebig was retired as a Headstart and reading specialist with the Mineral County Board of education with 32 years of service at the Keyser Primary Middle School. She was a 1970 graduate of Petersburg High School, did her undergraduate studies in early childhood development at Potomac State College, graduating in 1972 and received her Master's Degree as a reading specialist from West Virginia University in 1976. She was a member of the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren, New Creek, W.Va.

"Gabby," as she was known to her grandchildren, who were the lights of her life, enjoyed going to the beach, gardening and loved taking and collecting family photos. The walls in her home are covered with many precious family members and moments.

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband of 39 years, Paul Allen Liebig; three daughters, Dawn Liebig, at home, Erica Pritts and fiancee Timothy Fisher of Conway, S.C., and Julie Bosley and husband Devin of Bunker Hill, W.Va.; two brothers, Allen Hawk and wife Linda and Matt Hawk and wife Peggy, all of Scherr; four grandchildren, Landon, Harper and Kyndal Bosley and Carter Fisher and a greatly anticipated fifth grandchild "on the way." Also surviving is her father-in-law, Dr. Carl A. Liebig of Keyser and brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Carl W. Liebig of Keyser, Pamela Liebig of Germany, Carol Marsh and husband Tim of Buckhannon, W.Va., and Dr. Craig Liebig and wife Gail of Bridgeport, W.Va., and a very special, caring and compassionate friend, Janey Adams, who was there for Rita during all of the dark, trying days until the very last.

A memorial service will be conducted at the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren, New Creek, on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at 4 p.m. with Pastor Randy Shoemaker officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

The Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

The family requests that memorial contributions be directed to the Sunnyside Church of the Brethren, HC 75, Box 16, New Creek, WV 26743.
