FLINTSTONE — Paul Russell Wharton, 73, of Flintstone, died on Nov. 15, 2012. He passed away peacefully at his home after a short battle with cancer.
Paul was born on Dec. 24, 1938 in Cumberland, Maryland.
He is survived by his four sons, Paul R. Wharton, Jr. and wife LuAnn, Flintstone, Ronnie E. Wharton and wife Lori, Flintstone, Donnie L. Wharton, Cumberland and Bobby W. Wharton and wife Teresa, Cumberland; seven grandchildren, Jessica Farris and husband Cory, Frostburg, Ashley Cage, Wellersburg, Kaitlyn Wharton, Madison Wharton, Sarah Wharton, Rebecca Wharton and DJ Wharton, all of Cumberland, and four great-grandchildren. Paul also had many cousins and friends.
Paul was a veteran of the U S Navy. He worked as a laborer for many years and eventually retired in 1997 from the teamsters having worked as a truck driver.
Family and friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., 108 Virginia Ave. (www.scar-pellifh.com) on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 from 5 to 8 p.m.
Services will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Milton Morris officiating.
Interment will be in Glendale Cemetery, Flintstone.
Military Honors will be accorded by the Post 13 Veterans Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be: Paul Wharton, Ronnie Wharton, Donnie Wharton, Bobby Wharton, Johnny Whorton and Charlie Whorton.
The family would like to especially thank the wonderful care and service that was provided to Paul and his family by Hospice of Western Maryland and would request that in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Hospice in care of Paul Wharton, Sr.
The family would like to invite everyone to gather back at Paul, Jr.s house on Black Valley Road following the service.
