MARVIN E. RINKER [Short Gap, W.Va.]

SHORT GAP, W.Va. — Marvin E. Rinker, 77, died on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012. He passed away at Dawn View Center with all his family at his bedside.  

He amazed those in the medical field, friends and family with his positive outlook while living with cancer over four years. He has now received the ultimate victory of heaven.

Born June 6, 1935, in Junction, W.Va., he was the son of the late Alonzo A. and Daisy (Rogers) Rinker. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Edgar Rinker, Alonzo “Chubby” Rinker, Loren Rinker and Ivan Rinker and two sisters, Alma (Rinker) See and Della Rinker.

Marvin was a former employee of PPG Industries where he worked for 17 years. He retired from Glass Service of Cumberland. He was a member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church where he was a former Sunday School teacher and a member of the church choir. He was also a member of the Short Gap Quartet, the Freedom Sings Trio and he performed with the Legion band playing clarinet. He played in the band for the dedication of the original Keyser bridge.  

He was a graduate of Romney High School, he performed Sheharizad by Shatacovich on the clarinet for his graduation ceremony. He attended Shenandoah Conservatory of Music and taught school in Rada, W.Va.

A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife for over 55 years, Esther Mae (White) Rinker; two daughters, Cindy (Rinker) Felton and husband Jerry, of Short Gap and Cathy (Rinker) Getz and husband Keith, of Fort Ashby; two grandsons, Brandon Felton and Brent Felton; a stepgrandson, Ethan Getz; stepgranddaughter, Karissa Getz; grandcats, Cricket and Mack; one brother, James Rinker, of Ohio; one sister, Norma (Rinker) Harper and husband Richard, of North Carolina and two sisters-in-law, Betty Rinker, of Morgantown and Carolyn Rinker, of Short Gap.

Friends will be received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, P.A., Cresaptown ( on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.  

A funeral service will be conducted in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Short Gap, on Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Martha Ognibene officiating.

Interment will be in Fort Ashby Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the staff of Dawn View Center for their wonderful care and love for Marvin throughout his stay. He touched us all with his quick wit and humor. He will be sadly missed.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, Rt. 2, Box 421, Ridgeley, WV 26753.

Pallbearers will be Lou Wagoner, Andrew Rinker, Tommy Rinker, Clyde Norris, Bob Rice and Joe Keck.
