LAVALE — Albert Lee Comer Sr., 91, died Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012 at his home in LaVale.
Born June 30, 1921 in Shenandoah, Va., he was the son of the late James J. and Lucy D. (Sly) Comer
He was also preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Blanche Corrine (Wilson) Comer; and his son, Albert L. Comer Jr. Mr. Comer was the last member of his immediate family.
In 1983, Mr. Comer retired from the Kelly-Springfield Tire Company, having been a machinist by trade.
He was a member of Park Place United Methodist Church; Past Master of Queen City Lodge 131, A.F. & A.M.; and former member of Salem Chapter 18, R.A.M. and Salem Council 11, R. and S.M.
He was an avid golfer and was a member of Maplehurst Country Club from 1957 through 2009.
Mr. Comer was a member of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans—the Colonel William Norris Camp #1398. He was also involved with the Cumberland Historic Cemetery Organization.
Surviving are his daughter, Sandra K. Miles and husband William, Cumberland; daughter-in-law, Judy Hout, Fort Ashby, W.Va.; his very special grandson, Troy Grabenstein, who lived with his “Pap Pap,” and helped care for him. Without Troy’s love and care, we could not have kept Dad at home. His granddaughters include, Tracey Irving, Wiley Ford, W.Va., Drinda Wiebusch and husband Jason, North Port, Fla., Heather Burrows, Cape St. Claire, and Nicki Freels and husband Chad, Monongah, W.Va.; nine great-grandchildren, Jordan and Noah Irving, Cole and Emily Burrows, Claire and Nathan Lee Wiebusch, Jacob, Samantha, and Amanda Freels.
Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Vicki J. Cubbage, officiating.
Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park.
