Talk of taking police cars 'incredibly foolish'

To the Editor:

In response to Charles Martin of Frostburg: Clearly your agenda is anything anti-police (June 26, "MSP should toughen vehicle take-home policy"). In reference to assisting motorists, you said: "Couldn't they do this from their own car?" Oh, really? So I guess he would have to keep flares, first aid kit, handcuffs, pepper spray, fire extinguisher, flashlight, rain gear, etc. in his trunk now, too. And all without emergency overhead lighting? You must be kidding or incredibly foolish.

How about "Move closer to your job?" That seems realistic. Uproot the family, pull the kids out of school, have the wife lose her job and find a new one, try to sell a house in this market and if you do, probably lose thousands of dollars in the process. Next, try to find affordable housing in the Baltimore-Metropolitan area, then do it all over when the MSP transfers you again! All that plus viewing death, destruction, working rotating shifts, holidays and weekends, higher divorce rates, earlier death rates, all on a blue collar salary! Sounds great, where can I sign up?
