Fathers Rights group eyes state laws, local courts

To the Editor:

Last fall a handful of fathers and myself started a most needed organization entitled Maryland Fathers Rights League. This organization has two branches. A legislative committee headed by Ed Bogard is working closely with state elected officials to change laws, making custody laws more favorable for fathers in Maryland. The other branch of the organization is what is entitled "local." This entails members attending further hearings and trials, monitoring the activities of The Family Crisis Resource Center, providing activities for children who are victims of divorce (a Father's Day picnic), monitoring activities of local judges and lawyers involving custody, and printing the publication entitled "Family Journal," which exposes the horrors of the Allegany County court system.

One of the questions I am continuously asked is, why does the court system shake down the father, and in most cases they have not been the one to destroy the family? The court system operates from a bureaucratic, feminist, anti-American and Godless mentality. My next answer is, "the money."

In the "Liberator" magazine last summer, an article by Phyllis Schlafly hits the nail on the head. The article says the federal government provides $4.2 billion in block grants to the states to serve as collection agencies for child support. The more cases the state can create, the more funding the state receives, and the more the state can expand this welfare bureaucracy. Federal funding provides a powerful monetary incentive for the states to maximize the number of single-parent households. In Maryland, custody is almost always awarded to the mother, even if she admits to illegal drug use and abandons the family.

This shakedown of fathers in the United States is adding to a systematic destruction of the United States. In custody court, no matter what the mother does, she gains custody of the children. This in time will destroy America's children and their fathers and the backbone of our nation.

The Maryland Fathers Rights League is gaining tremendous ground on all fronts, however, we need every father who is going through this nightmare of fighting for their children to send their name, address and telephone number, and $10 dues, to MFRL, 400 S. Allegany St., Cumberland, MD 21502. Our next meeting, all invited, is Monday at 7 p.m. at the South Cumberland Public Library on Seymour Street, Cumberland.
