BPW basket bingo for charities, scholarships

To the Editor:
Cumberland Times-News

Cumberland Business and Professional Women is a local organization for working women.

We participate in numerous activities to support working women such as National Business Women’s Week, and National Pay Equity Day.

We also give scholarships to Frostburg State University and Allegany College. These scholarships are targeted to non-traditional female students from the tri-state area.

Recently, we have supported several other local charities as well. Funds are raised to support the scholarships and other charitable giving at our annual basket bingo.

This year’s basket bingo will be held on Sunday, Oct. 5, at the LaVale Volunteer Fire Department. The doors open at 1 p.m. and the games will begin at 2 p.m.

The baskets are hand-woven baskets from Dresden, Ohio. Refreshments will be available during the event.

Basket bingo is a great way to win a very nice basket for a $20 donation. You get 18 chances to win, not to mention the many door prizes that are drawn throughout the event.

So, get all your friends and family together to support women in the community and win some great prizes. Advance sales tickets are available at the Book Center in Cumberland, Harvey’s Florist in Frostburg, Cathy Carpenter’s State Farm Insurance across from LaVale Plaza, or by calling Jenn at (301)729-5366.

Tickets will also be available at the door for $26.

BPW membership is open to anyone, of any profession, and at any career stage. If you are interested in attending a meeting, we generally meet the third Tuesday of each month at a local restaurant. Come check us out!
