America is blessed to have its veterans

I wanted to thank our U.S. military veterans on this special Veterans Day 2009. We are blessed as a nation to have such loyal men and women who defend our freedoms here so we can all live in America.

Our church hosted a special service last Sunday to honor our soldiers at Calvary Baptist in Cresaptown. It was one of the best services we ever had.

It began with our kid’s choir singing under the leadership of Beth Reed and Tammy Thompson. The children did an exceptional job with patriotic numbers. Several others shared special music as well.

My younger brother, Chaplain LTC Terry McBride, gave the main message and stirred many hearts about our freedoms. He has served four tours in Iraq and is the command chaplain for 1st Army Division East headquarters in Fort Meade.

His experience training chaplains to minister to our troops has been incredible. We were honored to have him here. Our people invited many vets in the area to come so we may honor and thank them for serving our country. It was Patriotism at its best. The Word of God was launched and people responded.

Who says, “Patriotism is dead in America?” We experienced it here in Cresaptown on Sunday. We stand unashamedly for the gospel of Christ and the freedom to stand and say “God Bless America again.”

When our military men and women come to our services, we honor and respect them. Several of our church members went out to invite people to come to see that our church loves the military.

We have many problems as a country but this church will continue to pray for and love our Army, Navy, and Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard servicemen and women. Our church people believe in our cause.

We honor the veterans today because we have a chance to say thank you for defending our way of life, for fighting to keep us free from tyranny and to preserve our national heritage.

Thomas Jefferson said it best, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

May God help us to come together and honor these heroes of our nation.
