Knowing difference helps understanding

I think the difference between Islam and radical Islam is clear. The first step in understanding this is to know that Islam means “submission.” Muslims believe that everyone should think and worship the same god as they do. Muslims do not either support nor go against violence, but radical Muslims clearly believe they can harm anyone in anyway that do not believe in their god. Learning the difference between the two groups helps me better understand what is and might happen in the world.Lydia, Sixth GradeBishop Walsh School

Schools, country need to get back to basics

In response to “What part of can’t afford it don’t you understand?” is what happens when our government lets a non-believer talk them into taking prayer out of school and doing away with the Pledge to the American Flag and removing God’s words from buildings.

Good sense

Perhaps lost in all of the talk about state, county and local tax increases, and whether or not the citizens can afford them, are occasional signs that at least some of our elected officials realize that the proverbial money tree does not grow in our world.

Mayor reports on Westernport projects status

Ten years ago a hard rain made parts of Westernport unsafe and at best hard to get in and out of sometimes as the roads and streets were blocked. Even the middle school was opened for the people during these bad storms, remember?

What qualities should America's leader have?

I am writing this letter in regards to the upcoming election for our next president of The United States of America. I have flip-flopped so much these past several months I was beginning to think I was incapable of deciding which candidate to endorse.

Byrd's right: Charity should begin at home

I read, with great interest, the political commentary given by Senator Robert Byrd in the West Virginia section of the Sunday, April 27 edition of this paper. Even though I am a registered Republican, I will be so happy to see George W. Bush leave the White House.
