Movement to secede from Maryland is alive and well

I read the editorial in the Nov. 14 Times-News and (“Secession: Don’t look for counties to break away any time soon”) admit that I was very pleased to see the question of secession, most specifically the movement to have the five western counties of Maryland secede and form a new state in the Union known as “Western Maryland: A New State Initiative” as the topic of discussion.

The purpose of my response to the editorial is to pass along some information that will be of interest to you and your readers.

First off, the movement, while in its infancy, is alive and well. This week the WMI website went live (with better success than another website in the news lately) and a lot of information including a FAQ page (frequently asked questions) is available.

The site is available at http://freewesternmd.org/. There is a Facebook page as well. Just search for Western Maryland: A New State Initiative and click the “Like” button to keep abreast of WMI.

There will also be a town hall meeting on Nov. 22 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Allegany College of Maryland Theatre — 12401 Willowbrook Road.

This will be a great opportunity for citizens in the area to hear what the organizers are doing and to ask questions. Scott Strzelczyk, who is leading up the effort, will be there to conduct the meeting.

I strongly encourage everyone to attend regardless of your opinion on the issue.

The fact of the matter is that source of power and authority of our government, the federal and state of Maryland lie with the people.

Your attendance to this meeting and to this issue is of the utmost importance to control that government, which is acting out of control.

I hope to see you there.
