To the Editor:
I am writing to inform your readers and the animal control staff of Allegany about a problem that is dragging on and unresolved, yet.
The residents of Weires Avenue, LaVale, are being attacked and harassed by dogs that are not being kept on a leash and, as a result, roaming around public roads.
The same dog has been involved in two incidents, and the animal control people have been informed of this situation, and nothing has changed.
As a physician in this community by over 35 years, I encourage all my patients to be physically active as part of preventive medicine. I have been told by people that they stopped their daily walks because of fear of “dog attacks.”
I appeal to any dog owner to ensure that their dogs do not become a nuisance to others. We love dogs too, but the public has the right and deserve to have the freedom to walk in the streets unmolested. If this cannot be done, I appeal to the county commissioners and their employees to take necessary and effective action soon.
Many children play in this neighborhood, and I would hate to see them bitten by dogs because of failure of authorities to do their duties.
