Two-day camp set in August for children who have asthma

CUMBERLAND — A few weeks ago, I wrote a letter to the editor about the proposal of getting a bunch of kids together in this area who have asthma and driving down to Baltimore for an asthma camp there (“Summer camp can help your asthmatic children,” April 27 Times-News).

I received an overwhelming response from local parents of asthmatic children asking the same question, “Why don’t we have an asthma camp in this area?”

I took this information to an instructor of mine in the respiratory therapy department at Allegany College of Maryland.

With her encouragement, advisement and support from the college, we are going to have a two-day asthma camp on the campus of Allegany College of Maryland.

During this two-day camp on Aug. 21-22, we will be providing fun activities and education about issues surrounding asthma management.

Pediatric and pulmonary physicians, registered nurses and therapists, and a local dietitian will assist campers during their activities.

The camp is for children age 7-14 and is free of charge. The camp will be limited to 25 children and is on a first-come, first-serve basis. For more information call 301-784-5524.
