The need for blood donors never ends, particularly during the summer months when people’s schedules are even busier than normal.
The American Red Cross is offering donors a chance to win a $3,000 American Express gift card during its latest blood drive, which runs from July 1-15. Donors may visit redcrossblood.org/summer to share their summer blood donation stories and watch videos of patients whose lives were touched by donors.
Those who come in to donate blood or platelets through the local Red Cross from July 1 through 7 will receive a Red Cross ball cap, while supplies last.
Here’s a schedule of some blood visits that are open to the public:
July 1 — Cumberland, noon to 6 p.m., American Red Cross Blood Donation Center, 400 Cumberland St. and Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department Fire Hall.
July 2 — Keyser, W.Va., noon to 6 p.m., Keyser Presbyterian Church.
July 3 — Hyndman, Pa., noon to 6 p.m., Hyndman First United Methodist Church; Somerset, Pa., 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., Somerset Area High School.
July 5 — Oakland, noon to 6 p.m., American Legion. July 11 — Flintstone, noon to 6 p.m., Flintstone United Methodist Church.
July 12 — Luke, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Community Building.
July 15 — Cumberland, noon to 6 p.m., American Red Cross Blood Donation Center, 400 Cumberland St.; Paw Paw, 1 to 7 p.m., Fire Hall.
A blood donor card or driver’s license or two other forms of identification are required at check-in. Individuals who are 17 years old (16 with parental consent in some states), weigh at least 110 pounds and are in generally good health may be eligible to donate blood. High school students and other donors 18 and younger also have to meet certain height and weight requirements.
