To the Editor:
I am adding my voice to the Oct. 2 letter from George Levasseur (“Clean up after your dog so someone else won’t have to”). I, too, am disgusted at the number of dog owners who do not pick up after their pets.
I have a dog and walk him around various local areas, and it is amazing to me how many people think it’s OK to let their dogs defecate and just leave it. I’ve seen them do it on the sidewalks in LaVale, in other people’s yards, on the rail trail, and worst of all, in our local cemeteries.
If you don’t like cleaning it up, then don’t have a dog. If you have a large dog, carry a bigger bag.
The majority of us dog owners are responsible ones. It’s the few bad apples that ruin it for everyone else. It’s either ignorance, arrogance, or just plain laziness. Regardless, there is no acceptable excuse.
Cat owners are not exempt from this issue, either. I can no longer put out my bird feeders or bird bath, because of the carnage. Relaxing moments on my patio are spoiled by the stench of cat urine and feces in my landscaping.
Be respectful of your neighbors, our local wildlife, and your very own cat’s safety and keep your cats at home. There are ways they can safely enjoy the outdoors without roaming.
I am an animal lover and advocate. I am responsible for my animal’s health, well being, and actions.
In a perfect world, others would follow suit. If everyone would be accountable, we wouldn’t have litters of unwanted pets cramming our shelters, and we wouldn’t hear of accounts of someone's beloved Fluffy or Fido being poisoned or squashed flat in the middle of the highway. Animals are not the problem, people are!
