Early voting runs June 12-19 in Maryland

— The saying “Avoid the rush” appears in many places, from Christmas shopping (when it frequently is paired with “Buy now”) to hitting the road early on holidays before everyone else does.

One way you can avoid the rush — and we hope there turns out to be one — is to take advantage of early voting for Maryland’s primary election, which starts today and runs through June 19. Otherwise, you will have to wait and join the crowd on June 24, the actual day of the primary.

An early voting center has been set up in Suite 212 of the Allegany County Office Complex, 701 Kelly Road, Cumberland. It will be open for registered voters in Allegany County each day through June 19 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Those who wait until election day must go to the polling place to which they have been assigned between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m.

There is still time to request an absentee ballot by mail, electronically or by fax. Visit www.elections.maryland.gov/voting/absentee.html to request an absentee ballot. The deadline to request a mailed or faxed absentee ballot is June 17. The deadline to request an electronic absentee ballot is June 20.

Visit www.elections.maryland.gov/elections/2014/index.html  or contact the Allegany County Board of Elections at 301-777-5931 or the State Board of Elections at 800-222-VOTE (8683) for more information.
