There’s a reason for this violence and disrespect

Of late many sincere people have asked me what is wrong with the world, especially of the younger violent and disrespectful generation.

Why the difference from the former generation? Why the lack of morals? Why so much fornication? Why so many unwed mothers? Why such sloppy dress? Why such total disrespect? Why such an aversion to hard work? Why so many school shootings? Why such disrespect for parents, teachers and law-enforcement officers?

The latest fad among youth is “Knockout.” Innocent people, for no reason, are knocked the ground and laughed over by youthful thugs. That greatly disturbs me, this vicious, wanton, non-emotional attitude.

All done in the name of “fun.” Older, sane people, are totally distressed over the behavior of youth. Why  has America come to this?

The God-inspired Bible has the answer! Man was created in the image of God, but when sin entered this world, through man’s disobedience to His Creator, that image was badly marred. Man became a sinner, by nature and practice.

However, the father’s of this great nation instituted laws based on the Bible, to curb the  wicked passions of mankind. Those laws were strictly enforced, thus murderers were put to death (Numbers 35:16).

The Lord Jesus speaks of people being beaten with many or few stripes, according to their sin. (Luke 12:47-48). Colonial punishments for misbehavior were far more severe than what we have today.

There were stocks, whipping posts, imposed hard labor, and many other penalties not tolerated today, due to “bleeding hearts” and atheistic liberal groups. However, there were no teenagers then like we see today.

Corporal punishment is demanded by God of parents and teachers. “He that spareth the rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes. Foolishness (meaning anything improper) is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him. Withhold not correction from the child: for if thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die. The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.” (Proverbs 13:24; 22:15; 23:13; 29:15).

So, there it is. We have divorced God, and are reaping the fruits of our sowing. There were no school shootings, disrespect, “Knockouts,” broken marriage vows, unwed mothers, spat-on, punched and knifed teachers, sloppy dressers, haters of God like today.

Why? Simply because our forefathers enforced harsh laws that had teeth, and because of the severity of the punishment people were afraid of doing wrong, lest they suffer severely.

Also, our school children were exposed to the Bible,  and taught the fear of God. We have taken God out of our schools, and forsaken Him in our lives. Children are what we have made them.

Visit an Amish community and notice the vast difference in their children. No single parents, no wicked Hollywood influence through violent video games, or TV, no humanistic schools that ban God, spanking for disobedience, church every Sunday, and early-rising for hard work.

What’s the result? Decent, respectable children. The proof of the pie is in the pudding!

The idea of fracturing for natural gas makes many people anxious about potential harmful effects. For that reason alone, it is incumbent on Maryland government to require full disclosure of chemicals used in the process.

I’d like to pose a theoretical scenario to Cal Thomas.

If a medical specialist said, “Cal, you’ve got a serious physical problem. Do nothing and you’ll die soon. Follow my prescription, which involves certain life-style changes, and there’s a good probability you’ll live, even if your life may be a bit more constrained than now.”

Without our veterans and those who made the ultimate sacrifice, where would America be today? It is anyone’s guess, however certainly not the Freedom and Liberty we enjoy.

Those of you who have been here before know how I feel about the late great Len Bias, who I will remember foremost as Leonard Bias, the polite, spindly Bambi-eyed kid from Hyattsville’s Northwestern High School, who could throw a dunk through the floor, yet had the most beautiful jump shot I have ever seen.
