These other things are killing more people

Cumberland Times-News

— This is in response to the people who voiced their opinions of my opinion (“Army has never referred to these weapons as assault rifles,” Sept. 18 Times-News).

First of all calling an AR15 (Armalite Rifle) an assault rifle, is offensive to many service members. Myself, family members and friends who serve or have served, agree. So the fact is that, “It is offensive to service members.”

It’s easy to Google search a topic and call it research. It took exhaustive research to realize that there were more people killed by hammers than there were killed by AR15s last year. This is a fact.

I feel that God and God alone provided all our needs. This is also a fact. This comes from exhaustive Biblical research. The government does not, nor was it ever given the right by God to tell me what my needs are. They never supplied them and they can’t take them away.

An AR15 is not a need. Neither is a cell phone, computer, TV, video games, car, house, clothing or any thing else we choose to have.

Many people state that AR15s are not needed in order to keep law biding citizens from having them. If they said the same thing about a cell phone, the whole country would be in an uproar.

They are not needed, but wanted. The same as many other things in life. This is a fact.

One side of the government is fighting the fact that a recent Supreme Court ruling, allowing for states to require an I.D. to vote. They say it’s a constitutional right and should not require an I.D. What about the constitutional right to own and bear arms?

If you purchase a firearm you are required to have an I.D. What’s the difference? Some say firearms are deadly.

So are presidents. How many people has the president killed, since he is responsible for all military deaths in war? He is the commander and chief. If not, then why hasn’t he removed all our soldiers from war. He puts them in battle.

Voting gives him this power. That is how important it is to be sure all the voters are eligible to vote. A voter I.D. will help assure this.

This country became great because people were willing to give their very own lives to live in a land where the government didn’t have the right to dictate what they either needed or wanted.

They used rifles to accomplish this goal. Rifles helped make this nation what it is today. This also is a fact.

We can also see what cell phones, video games, TVs are doing to make our country what it is today.

People are killed by people using cell phones, while driving. People are killed because someone was obsessed with a video game. People are killed because they are inspired by a certain movie, song or TV show.

So tell me, which one is having the worst effect on our nation or is killing the most people. The AR15 rifle, or the rest of the stuff?
