Government, responsible citizens must work together

— We hear a lot of paranoia about socialism and praise for capitalism. I wonder if it is possible to think about it rationally without all the emotion that causes us to lose our common sense. And if there is anything this country needs right now it is a good dose of common sense.

Capitalism would be great if it weren’t for some people wanting the lion’s share of the capital, leaving 99 percent of the people on the short end or worse.

And history has shown us that those with the money are the ones who have the power and they are the ones who govern. Consequently, democracy is sacrificed on the altar of wealth.

Socialism and capitalism could work hand in hand, if it weren’t for the paranoia and the corruption of power. In fact, we have been working this way for many years.

Stop and think how many ways we have programs that could be identified as socialistic: insurance companies, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, public schools, police, firemen and many others.

Whether we have capitalism or socialism, it depends upon our government and responsible citizens.

Without both, we will have to endure the chaos and impoverishment of the haves against the have-nots.
