To the Editor:
How much invasion of privacy must we put up with?
I live in Mount Savage, and they are running a new water system from Frostburg that they say is needed. They didn’t think the old pipes were good enough to handle the new flow, so they put all new lines in.
They said the people wanted this. Not only did the price for water go up but now you have to pay to hook up to their system. They got a government grant to help the people get this done.
Here is the problem: To get this you must give them three months bank statements, how much you make and sign a letter that you won't sell your home for five years. If you do, you must pay back the cost for the hookup.
First, I don’t give bank information to anybody. They don't need to know what you have in the bank. They will be able to attach your bank account if you are late on your payment.
Second, do you want another lien on your home after paying it off in 20 or 30 years? I wouldn’t want it.
This country is doing to its people the same thing it sends our troops to fight against. Where are our rights? We can do nothing anymore.
I served this country for 27 years and don't regret a minute of it. But it is time we stand up for our rights. They say our water will be shut off at the end of the year.
Well, water is what heats my home. I guess it will be cold for me. I'm not giving them my bank information. Anyone else that feels this way needs to contact someone. That is our right, if the government hasn’t taken that also.
