Donating your old bike will help someone who really needs it

— The annual Bikes for the World collection of used bicycles and portable sewing machines will be held at Canal Place from 10 a.m. to noon on May 17.

As in the past, the Western MD Wheelmen will be working with the Cumberland Rotary to collect repairable, used bikes and sewing machines to ship overseas to partnering organizations.

Our goal is to get bikes into the hands of those who might utilize them for transportation to jobs, school, or health care.

Some partnering organizations teach bike repair, and some entrepreneurial folks have been able to start businesses once they obtained a bike.

Our collection has a dual purpose. Not only do we collect and ship bikes to those in need, we also provide a way for local folks to recycle their bikes.  These bikes and sewing machines will not end up in a landfill, but will be re-purposed in a meaningful way.

Save the date! May 17, 10 a.m. to noon at Canal Place. More information about Bikes for the World is available at bikesfortheworld.org. Or call me at 240-727-3533. Thanks you.
