To the Editor:
As a Christian, I thought I would reply to Charles Haynes column titled “End Myth of Christian Nation” on the editorial page of the Times-News on Aug. 17. Although he is right in saying that America is not one, it was founded on Christian principles and values.
Our laws on theft, murder, lying, coveting anyone’s property and possessions, along with living in peace and harmony are from the Bible. If you can go to Washington, D.C. without falling on your knees in front of the White House, then walk to the Supreme Court building and look up. There you will find above the door a relief of Moses receiving the law from God and giving it to the people.
Now, why would non-Christian thinking politicians allow such a blatant carving to deface a public building back then unless they had Christian principles and values? Like other nations, America has always been a mix of Muslims, Jews, Christians and a whole host of various religious beliefs so it never was a true Christian nation. However, Mr. Haynes, and you can believe this or not, there is a day coming when not only the United States but the whole world will be controlled by Jesus Christ and you will never stop it.
But first, the economies of the world will collapse and out of the chaos will come a man with all the answers. He will be chosen by the European Union as president for seven years, then start to control the whole world. For the first 3 1/2 years, Satan will dominate his mind, leading him to kill all who worship and believe in Christ. The last 3 1/2 years, he will be possessed by Satan and make the remnant of people receive his ownership mark of 666. God will bring judgment on the world until the Battle of Armageddon when Jesus puts a stop to those who are destroying the Earth and each other.
For 1,000 years, the Earth will be under the control of King Jesus, who will sit on a throne in the rebuilt temple in Jerusalem. After the 1,000 years is over, he will judge all the wicked, cleanse the Earth and heavens with fire, and for eternity to come rule and reign, making it a truly Christian world.
If you and others are not ready for that day, then simply do what Romans 10:9 and 13 state. That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For whomever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
I would suggest that in this immoral world that all people call on the name of Jesus before it is too late to make amends.
