Cumberland should look to D.C. for landscaping ideas

Wow, little did I know Cumberland has a pedestrian underpass on Baltimore Street. What other neat stuff do you have that many do not know about?

That underpass could be redesigned with different tile. Brighter tile and maybe a row of artistic designs in the tile. What about the entrances? Update those with pleasant landscaping.

Cumberland is a beautiful little city. Such a shame beauty from design to landscaping doesn’t prevail with the charm of the city. County commissioners and planning department, you need to address landscaping and beautification when it comes to your little city of Cumberland.

Look what Lady Bird Johnson did for Washington along the George Washington Parkway, not only in D.C. but also the parkway, that lines the Potomac River, in Virginia.

The effort it took to bring cherry blossom trees to the tidal basin, along the avenues in Washington and lining the Potomac River bed dates back to 1885 with Eliza Ruhamah Scidmore and  the success of those beautiful trees made Washington one of the most beautiful cities to visit. The genetic lineage of the original trees of 1912 still exists today.

Look at your streets, your shopping centers how beautiful they can be; if only someone knew about landscape design.
