Why have the media been silent all this time?

When I read the Cumberland Times-News Editorial this morning, Friday, May 17, entitled, “Outrageous,” I laughed like a kid at a birthday party!

While I have found, for the most part, the Cumberland Times-News to be a fair and balanced news outlet, I find the editorial in itself an excellent exercise in hypocrisy.

Understand, the information in the editorial is correct and this outrage does need to be brought to the public’s attention.

What is hypocritical is this is the first time the news media has cried “foul” in all of the undercover, underhanded and freedom robbing shenanigans that have transpired under the Obama administration.

They have remained silent and in lockstep with everything that has been going with this president. And now they have been bitten on the backside by the “Exalted One!” Perhaps he didn’t use his own teeth but he sanctioned it by appointing people that have no problem doing this kind of skullduggery.

As former President Harry Truman put it, “The buck stops here!”

Freedom of the press is the part of the First Amendment everyone remembers. However it also includes freedom of religion and freedom of speech.

Where is the news media outrage as Christianity is being trampled on and harassed? Where is the news media outrage when the Tea Party and other conservative groups assemble lawfully and are being harassed and ridiculed?

The Second Amendment guarantees our right to bear arms. This right has been and is being trampled by our present administration and especially in individual states like Maryland. Where is the news media outrage on this subject?

The Forth Amendment is to protect us from unwarranted searches and seizures. Like the federal government “searching and seizing” data from 20 Associated Press telephone lines. Oh yes, we’re hearing the outrage from the media on this one.

The Tenth Amendment is designed to limit the powers of the federal government. So far Obama has exercised “Executive Privilege” on over 900 items and numerous illegal “recess appointments” thus bypassing Congress. Where is the news media outrage on this?

The Fourteenth Amendment defines citizenship and due process for citizenship. We presently have over 20 million illegal immigrants in this country and our president and Congress are afraid to deport them. Where is the news media outrage on this?

The answer to the “Where’s the news media outrage?” question is, they have been assisting the government in trashing this country with their liberalism, silence, ridicule and disparaging commentaries!

The news media has always been our protector from abusive government since the beginning of our country. However, in recent years they seldom report the news. They create it or filter it so that the public gets only that which and how the media wants.

This administration and the media have been silent for over seven months on the Benghazi attack where four men, including our diplomat, were murdered by terrorists. And now that their ox has been gored, they are now screaming “foul.”

I have been saying for years that the news media in this country is shortsighted in not foreseeing its own demise. After all, once the rest of the Constitution is eliminated, what is going to protect them?

While the Department of Justice monitoring of 20 telephone lines is by no means the end of the news media, it is an indicator of where our president is taking this country and in what regard he holds the media.

Perhaps the Internal Revenue Service and AP scandals will be a wakeup call. No, I really don’t think so either.

The idea of fracturing for natural gas makes many people anxious about potential harmful effects. For that reason alone, it is incumbent on Maryland government to require full disclosure of chemicals used in the process.

I’d like to pose a theoretical scenario to Cal Thomas.

If a medical specialist said, “Cal, you’ve got a serious physical problem. Do nothing and you’ll die soon. Follow my prescription, which involves certain life-style changes, and there’s a good probability you’ll live, even if your life may be a bit more constrained than now.”
