911 remembrance ceremony, participants, were appreciated

— I would be remiss if I did not commend the Woodmen of the World in Cumberland for their “In Honor and Remembrance Day” program held on Sept. 11 to salute America’s heroes and remember 9/11.

The muggy heat could not mask the solemnity of the service or the patriotism of the crowd. The speakers and honored guests balanced their remarks between heroes and tragedy.

The presence of the Vietnam Veterans of America Color Guard, fire and rescue personnel, and law enforcement officers provided colossal reassurance our nation cannot be broken by pernicious acts of violence.

Ed Wagner’s rendition of God Bless America and Taps by Allan Lewis sent vibrations through the crowd that the tragedy of the horrific day 12 years ago cannot dismantle America’s spirit.

Happy 110th anniversary WOW Lodge 6. And, thanks!
