To the Editor:
I turn to the opinion page and the comics first. I find them equally entertaining. And never thought I would write.
But a recent letter struck a nerve. We are not a democracy, and the majority does not rule, we are a represented republic.
I do not always agree with the decisions of the representatives. My recourse is at the voting booth. Forty-six years ago I fought an unpopular war.
I was not drafted. I volunteered and was labeled a fool. Words cannot describe the bond established with fellow soldiers, in combat.
By the grace of God I am the last man standing, as all in my squad have passed either in combat or since.
To express or think shame for being an American is un-American and dishonors my fallen brothers and sisters, as well anyone else who has served this great country.
I was compelled to write, as I refuse to believe I am the only one with this opinion!
