To the Editor:
I am writing today in support of the Fourmile Ridge Wind Energy Project currently underway in Garrett County.
As a local land owner, I believe it is imperative this project proceed for the economic well-being of our community.
The amount of revenue this project will bring to our local businesses will help our economy and begin to rebuild what was lost in from the economic downturn of the last decade.
As a Cumberland Times-News article of Aug. 1, 2012, stated, “Wind project provides economic boost, work associated with Somerset County’s Twin Ridges a benefit to Frostburg businesses.”
Our entire community stands to benefit from the tax dollars as well as the economic benefit that a project of this magnitude entails. Here are just a few of the benefits to our community from this project.
Over $100 million economic investment in Garrett County, 24 wind turbines serve the Fourmile Ridge Wind Project located near Finzel in Garrett County, Maryland.
This will create construction and permanent jobs working toward a construction start date of 2013 with project completion in 2014. Wind projects preserves legacy of local farmland and has the support of the local farm bureau.
Over $1 million in annual tax revenue to Garrett County and this year $2.3 million in tax revenues collected from two operating wind projects on Backbone Mountain were used for the Garrett County schools budget.
Therefore I urge you to join me at the Public Service Commission Hearing in support of this project being held at Garrett College on March 19 at 6 p.m. I support this project for the good of our community, and I hope you will too.
