To the Editor:
I’d like to respond to the article, “Administrative hurdles make getting salt supplies difficult,” Feb. 20 Times-News, Page 1A.
I feel that some of the statements unfairly place blame on the State Highway Administration for difficulties in obtaining road salt.
This absolutely is not the case and the agreement between the town and SHA has undoubtedly met our expectations.
The icy conditions early Wednesday morning were not foreseen by the officials of the town of Lonaconing and due to numerous recent snowfalls and icing conditions the town was low on salt (to no fault of any administrative process).
The safety of our town’s citizens is our primary goal of this municipality. There were also accusations that there were “times” when workers were turned away from the LaVale complex and shifted to the Frostburg facility.
When asked, town administrator, Aaron Wilt, said he was aware of only one instance where that occurred as was mentioned in the article.
He also feels the agreement between the town and SHA has worked well for both sides while increasing accountability on each.
In concluding, Miller Environmental employees do not represent the Town or its views.
