Maryland citizens should join fight against ‘Bathroom Bill’

To the Editor:
Cumberland Times-News

— Citizens of Western Maryland need to voice their concerns against the “Bathroom Bill” in Annapolis — a code name for “Fairness for All Marylanders Act of 2014”

HOUSE BILL 1265

Prohibiting discrimination based on gender identity with regard to public accommodations, housing, and employment and by specified licensed or regulated persons; prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity with regard to commercial leasing; altering an exception for employers relating to standards concerning dress and grooming; providing specified immunity; requiring State personnel actions to be made without regard to gender identity or sexual orientation; defining the term “gender identity”; etc.

The citizens of Maryland should rise up and stand against this bill which would rend separate bathrooms an obscure feature of the past.

Do we want a gender neutral society where even male and female is now in the twilight zone of our society ? Our schools demand better teaching for the safety of our children and the foundation of the family.

We cannot allow gender neutral locker rooms and the blurring of privacy for our students. Safety needs to be a priority in our schools not a gender neutral accommodation.

“Gender identity” is a way to blur the distinct differences and personal privacy of our genders created by the Creator God. Is this what we want our schools to become for the future?

We know Gov. O’Malley will sign the bill if the House passes it. It’s time for the people in the western part of Maryland to let our opinions be heard loud and clear.

I encourage the citizens of western Maryland to contact all our delegates in Annapolis — Wendell Beitzel, Kevin Kelly and LeRoy Myers Jr. — and be a voice for truth. Vote against HB 1265.
