Bears prefer certain autos
For seven years, the top choice of vehicle by black bears in Yosemite National Park has been the minivan. The bears seem to base this decision on “fuel efficiency”—that is, which vehicle offers the best opportunity of finding a meal. As a result, black bears have shown a strong preference for breaking into minivans over other types of vehicles.

Rockfish numbers down a little in Md.
The Maryland Department of Natural Resources announced that 2009 Young-of-the-Year Striped Bass Survey was a 7.9 catch per haul this year, slightly below the long term average of 11.7. DNR has used the same techniques for the survey for 50 years to show the yearly spawning success for rockfish.

Display your Keystone State license on your back
The omissionin this year’s hunting digest of a regulation that has been in place for decades has caused some hunters and trappers to wonder whether they still are required to display their licenses in the middle of the back as has been done for many, many years. Pennsylvania Game Commission Executive Director Carl G. Roe answered, “Yes, it still needs to be displayed.”
