A slightly decomposed male bear, estimated to weigh 200 pounds, was discovered in the woods near Amish Road in Garrett County about two weeks ago. The Maryland Natural Resources Police is investigating the situation.
Clarissa Harris, biologist for the Maryland Wildlife and Heritage Service, said Wednesday that thus far in 2008 there have been no confirmed deaths of bears on Maryland highways. ÒThatÕs highly unusual,Ó Harris said. ÒUsually we get a loner road kill in January or February, then they start being regular in March and really pick up in April.Ó
