This was the worst deer season ever

Dear Mike,

I read the Rod & Gun magazine first. We have been hunting for many years, even when we lived where we never saw a deer for years. We never saw coyotes and bears and I would put anyone up to shooting guns and hunting like our huge family.

My 8 brothers have hunted all their lives. This was the worse deer season we ever remember.

On 179 acres, 101 acres, 144 acres and our neighbor’s 5.54 acres, we only killed two bucks. Everyone hunted hard. I also can’t believe a 7-9-year-old can shoot a high-powered rifle with or without a scope.

I am strong for a woman. I have to prop mine on a tree on my stand banister. I have a .30-06, 300 mag. These little kids are not holding a high-powered rifle.

Be real. You hunt.

Try holding them (high-powered rifle) open handed for a while.

This was the worse deer season I can remember in my 83 years, especially on Piney Mountain. I talked to lots of hunters.

I belong to the Piney Mountain club.

Everyone I’ve talked to said the worse season ever.
