Bear harvest at 63; hunt will continue

From Staff Reports
Cumberland Times-News

CUMBERLAND — Maryland’s black bear hunt will continue today as hunters had killed 63 bears as of 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Despite wind and rain, eight bruins were checked in Wednesday. The season will end when the harvest reaches somewhere between 60 and 85 bears — a quota set by the Department of Natural Resources.

Hunting is allowed only in Garrett County and a portion of Allegany County.

The season that started Monday is the sixth since black bear hunting resumed in Maryland in 2004.
