Club will host fishing day for disabled veterans

CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland Outdoor Club will host a Disabled Veterans Fishing Outing on May 4 from noon to 4 p.m. at club grounds near Oldtown.

The event is supported by Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va., Vietnam Vets/Legacy Vets MC Club and the South Cumberland Rod and Gun Club.

Disabled veterans will receive a Going Fishing T-shirt. Food, beverages, fishing equipment and bait will be provided.

“Our goal is to honor as many disabled veterans as possible who have served during World War II, Korea, Vietnam, First Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq,” said club spokesman Ron Smith.

“As we erect statues, monuments and numerous dedicated stones which remind us of those who have given their lives for this nation, at the same time we should help those veterans who are still with us who have both physical and mental wounds,” Smith said.

To attend, assist or donate, call 301-722-8009 or write to Cumberland Outdoor Club, c/o Disabled Veterans Fishing Outing, 31 Thomas St., Cumberland, MD 21502.
