— There have now been 23 bears struck and killed on Maryland roadways during 2013, according to an unofficial count kept by the Cumberland Times-News.



On July 27, a 140-pound female bruin died on state Route 495 near the Western Maryland 4-H Center.



On July 28, on old U.S. Route 40 in Frederick County near Gambrill Park Road a bear was struck, but not found.
