Clubs oppose elk in Western Maryland

Cumberland Times-News

— MIDLOTHIAN — The Allegany-Garrett Sportsmen’s Association reports in the minutes of its December meeting that the majority of clubs within the association are not in favor of the reintroduction of Rocky Mountain elk into those two counties as proposed by the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Maryland Legislative Sportsmen’s Foundation and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

AGSA has not taken an official stance on the matter.

A possible reintroduction has been under consideration since August 2011. Bill Miles of the MLSF said recently that a decision is expected this spring.
