Road-killed bear total creeps upward in Md.

— With the death of a 225-pound male bear on Interstate 68 near the Finzel exit on May 31, the bruin road-kill total for Maryland this year increased to six.

Then on June 5, the total rose to seven. An 80-pound female yearling bear died on U.S. Route 17 near Myersville in Frederick County. Clarissa Harris of the Maryland Wildlife & Heritage Service said the young bear was the offspring of a radio-collared sow.
