DES MOINES, Iowa — A bill to permit Iowa residents to use crossbows during the late muzzleloader and archery deer season passed the Iowa House by a 94-0 vote on March 27 and is now under consideration in the state Senate, according to The Archery Wire.
House File 499 allows use of crossbows during what is commonly referred to as late muzzleloader season, which runs from Dec. 17 to Jan. 10. Currently, crossbows are permitted during archery deer season by authorized hunters who have physical limitations.
There is no organized opposition to the measure.
Bill sponsor, Rep. Scott Ourth (D-Ackworth), said the measure will expand opportunities for hunters.
