The unofficial count of road-killed bears on Maryland highways has risen to 26, according to the Cumberland Times-News.
On Aug. 14, two bear cubs from separate litters were struck and killed on New Germany Road. A 21-pound female was hit near the Monroe Run Overlook and a 23-pound male died near Big Run Road.
Two bears were trapped and aversively conditioned in Garrett County; a 234-pound male bruin that had been getting into trash at the Double G Campground at McHenry and a 98-pound female near Foster Road that had shown no fear of humans.
